Struggles in the Paraguayan archeology

The lack of experts in the field of archaeology

Archaeology requires not only archaeologists but also anthropologists, geologists, biologists, and others. It’s not just archaeologists who work in the field, since this science involves the study of the past, this includes animals, plants, and rocks. Archaeology doesn’t operate all by itself, but here in Paraguay, these experts are lacking in the field of archaeology.

The relationship between archeology and education

In Paraguay, there is NO career of archaeology as such, which worsen up the situation and creates a reliance on foreign expertise, greatly affecting Paraguayan archaeology.

The insufficient funding for archaeologists

According to what several experts told us, they work on a very tight budget given the quality of work required by the findings. They also told us that, although there is a company that supplies them with the necessary equipment, these services are provided only once a year, and if something is missing from the list they are given, they cannot complain and have to wait until the next year. Archaeologists literally use latex gloves to do their work.

Their workspaces are also unsuitable for their work, given that the National Archives is not on it's best of shape and remains the small workspace that archaeologists continue to use to study their findings.
